Jan 14 - River tour cancelled so we explored the city

Today we were supposed to head to the Underground River tour in Sabang, but it was cancelled due to bad weather (the waves get too large so they can't transport people by boat to the river.) So after breakfast we headed to the Palawan Museum. There were lots of cool artifacts from all around Palawan Island in this small museum, old human remains and indigenous people's carvings, pottery, and skulls!

Then we walked around town and saw a very large and beautiful church with Jose Rizal's statue perched out front. Every town on Palawan Island (this might be for the whole philippines too?) has a Rizal Ave/Street/Road. Rizal was a scholar and a revolutionary that was executed by the Spanish Government after having been wrongly accused of leading the Katipunan Revolution. His execution was one of the main causes of the Philippine Revolution against the invading Spaniards during the 1800s. He was ahead of his time in believing that "the only justification for national liberation and self-government is the restoration of the dignity of the people". He died a martyr, but left behind a pretty fantastic story of the philippines regaining their freedom.

We then headed to the local market that was buzzing and busy with locals and tourists. It was like a cave in a cave full of "stuff!" further into this cave-building we found chicken, pork, fish of all kinds and countless other edibles unbeknownst to us. After much wandering we found a really awesome vegetarian place called Ima's Veggie Restaurant and had a (actually) delicious meal. The rest of our day was spent maxing out relaxing all cool.

Crazy market!
Mmm goods at the market
more delicious ... fish!
eggs galore!

Random transportation info... this is a Jeepney and Trike, aside from motorcycles these machines are how most tourists and locals get around!
Jeepney - old military jeeps used now for public transportation

Trike holds 4 passengers... comfortably....
